Kittery Maine

Image
This past week I took a trip to Kittery Maine to shop at the outlet stores. I had never been there so I wanted to check it out. After a less than 2 hour ride I started my day at the Kittery Trading Post. My favorite store of the day. This place was HUGE and sold so many different things. There was clothing, sporting equipment, food and spices, gift ideas and so much more. I will definitely go back just for this store.  If you are planning to go there for the day I would suggest stopping at the customer service center first to pick up a brochure with the map and names of all the stores. This also shows you where all the restrooms are. My complaint for the day was that several stores were vacant. I was looking forward to shopping at "Maine Collection" but that was one of the vacant stores. If you are looking for any Boston sports memorabilia I would suggest going to Boston sports cave. I enjoyed that store. Once I had enough shopping I went to Nubble light house which was only...

Rhode Island road trip

Image
Narragansett and the surrounding area has a lot to offer other than beaches. I took a "rhode" trip to explore. First stop was the village of Wickford. There are several little shops and restaurants. Many restaurants have outdoor decks on the water. Spent a couple of hours walking around here, bought a few things, then ventured on to the next town of Kingstown. Here we went to the Azalea gardens. They were not in bloom but there were some nice things to see and it was a nice place to walk around. I will definitely go back next year when the azaleas are in bloom. I should also mention that admission is free, but donations are accepted and they sell quite a few different plants. Next was the Hannah Robinson Tower. I was a little disappointed when I reached the top because there were too many trees blocking what should have been a nice view. The next town was Narragansett. We stopped at Aunt Carrie's to get some delicious ice cream. We decided on ice cream for our lunch. The...

Yarmouth Sand Sculptures

Image
One Cape trip I recommend  everyone take is a day in Yarmouth after July 4th to find the sand sculptures. artists start making the sculptures around memorial day and are finished by July 4th. You can get a map online or stop at the visitors center on route 6 to get one. I did this trip Saturday July 31st. My first stop was at the canal. I find this place so relaxing. I spend many days just sitting here watching all the boats go by. After leaving the canal I headed over the bridge and stopped at the route 6 visitors center to get my copy of the sand sculptures map. The first sand sculpture is located here at the visitors center. This year there were 32 sand creations to find, with most of them on route 28. In past years there have been as many as 43. Here are pictures of a few of my favorites from this year. My daughter and I take this trip every year and after finding all the sand creations we are hungry so time for dinner. This year we ordered take out from Sandwich Pizza an...

Castle Island

Image
Do you like to sit by the water? Do you like to watch Boats? Like to watch planes take off and land? Like to people watch? If you answer yes to these questions then I suggest you spend some time at Castle Island in South Boston. I went there for 2 hours this morning and enjoyed the scenery as I walked around the water. Then I sat on the fish pier and watched all the planes taking off and landing at Logan. It's a beautiful place to walk and there are benches every 10 feet so you have plenty of places to sit and relax. If you get hungry or Thirsty there is a fast food restaurant "Sullivan's" but that was quite busy today so I imagine you would wait awhile in line. And the views are beautiful!

Corona school closures

Image
Boy am I glad that this year is not my final year teaching. This would be a terrible way to end my career. I know the governor has said schools can reopen in May 4th but I just don't see that happening. I hope I am wrong but I am thinking schools will be closed for the rest of this year. That means I can't say goodbye to my seniors who I will not see again since they will be off to college. That makes me very sad. During all this time at home in addition to remote teaching I am spending time researching places to visit when I do retire. Everyone that knows me is aware I am a HUGE Disney fan so I plan to buy an annual pass when I retire. That will be my retirement gift to myself. Retirement is June of 2021 and this was the headline on a recent post on Mickeyblog.com This article was perfect for me as it detailed the best time to go and two of those times are when I plan to go. In September I plan to be at Walt Disney World on the first day of school and I also plan to...

The Start of a new Blog

Hello Everyone, let me introduce myself. My name is Mary and I have been teaching math for 34 years. I have been the math department head for the past 10 years. One more year and I retire. I can't wait to take a vacation when school is in session. September 2021 when everyone heads back to school I will be heading to Disney World. Besides going on long vacations I do love a day trip or an overnight trip so I am going to use this blog to write about all my adventures. Even though I am not retired yet I started this blog because I am starting to do some day trips and weekend getaways. I live in southeastern Mass so hopefully I give people in my area ideas on where to go for day trips. I look forward to sharing all my fun with readers.
