Disney's Port Orleans - French Quarter Resort

Image
returned home yesterday after a 6 day trip to Disney World. While there, I stayed at the Port Orleans French Quarter Resort. I would not hesitate to stay there again. The regular price for a standard room is $304 per night. I took advantage of a promotion and only paid $255 per night. My room was in a perfect location. Only a few steps away from the river where you can take a boat ride over to Disney Springs and in the other direction I only had a few steps to Jackson Square. Jackson square is where the hotel lobby is, the quick service restaurant, the jazz night club, the resort store and multiple activities happen there.  If you want to pay a little more ($333) you can get a room with a river view.  This resort is the smallest of the Disney properties and that is one reason I liked it so much. I spend the whole day walking all over the parks so it was nice to have a short walk to my room when I got off the bus. There is one bus stop in front of the resort and I found the bus rides

Winter Beach Trips

Image
Winter is always a slow time for me. I don't take too many trips in the cold weather. Last week we had a couple of warm days so I took a ride to the cape and went for a walk along the beach. I love being by the water even if it is windy and chilly. There is something about the sound of the waves that is so relaxing and on a chilly day the beach isn't crowded.  I went to West Dennis beach which is a little over a mile long so I can get a nice long walk. There were several people there walking their dogs. I even spotted a couple of swans in the ocean. this is such a nice place to walk. After leaving West Dennis Beach, I went for a walk around my favorite store in that area, Cuffy's. They are currently having a GREAT sale. Most summer t-shirts are 70% off. I bought two short sleeve t-shirts for only $4.20 each. If the clothing isn't 70% off then it is 50% off.  the sand sculptures are still standing and they are worth the trip. If you haven't been to Cuffy's make

Disney Trip Planned

Image
My all time favorite place to go on vacation is Walt Disney World in Florida. I wish I could afford to go here twice a year, but I can barely afford once a year. I was there in December of 2022 and I am planning to go again in March of 2024. I have everything booked. Disney is offering 25% off hotels for the beginning of next year which I took advantage of for this trip. I will be trying a different resort for me as I am staying at Port Orleans French Quarter. Now I start my countdown!! I am sure I will find some places to take day trips between now and then that I can tell you all about here on this blog.

Casino Fun

Image
I am not someone who goes to the casino all the time but I do enjoy a trip to one every now and then. Recently I went to visit Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY. It was my first time here and I would definitely take the 4 hour drive to visit again. The casino was extremely clean and bright. Lots of cute shops throughout the place. and so many restaurants to pick from. I went with my sister, who lives in NY, and we chose to eat at the casino buffet. Delicious!! The cost was $39.99 per person for a buffet with so many choices: taco bar, seafood, Chinese, BBQ, carving station, fried food, Italian and of course many delightful desserts.  I had prime rib from the carving station and it melted in my mouth, I had to go back for seconds on that. The general Tso's chicken was another of my favorites. The only food I had that I have a small complaint about was the chicken tenders were a little dry.    For dessert I had to try more than one. I had the most delicious piece of carrot cake, al

Chatham Pumpkin People

Image
It is October, the month of pumpkins, so once again I traveled to Chatham, MA to view the pumpkin people in the park. Each year businesses in Chatham put together a display using pumpkins. These displays are set up for viewing in Kate Gould Park. I love looking at these. So worth the 1.5 hour drive to see them. Here are pictures of some of my favorites. After walking through the park I went to the Chatham Fish Pier and let the seals entertain me for an hour. The restrooms at the Chatham Fish Pier are open year round, just in case you were wondering. Then went for some lunch at Kream and Cone in Dennis. I had fried clam strip plate which comes with both french fries and onion rings. I paid $21 for the plate and couldn't finish so I brought the rest home for lunch the next day. I was with my mother-in-law and she got the fried oyster plate which was $29.99. Kream and Cone closes for the season on October 29th.

Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular

Image
If you have a free evening this month I recommend you go to Rogers Williams Zoo in Providence, RI to see thousands of carved pumpkins.  I went for the first time and I am excited to go again. There was just so much to see. Some of the pumpkins have a etching on them and then a light inside so the picture glows. Those were some of my favorites. Especially the picture of Einstein. The pumpkins are on both sides of the mile long trail and they are hanging from the tree branches above you.  You have to see this display. I can't find the words to describe how much I enjoyed walking through this spook-tacular.  The Jack-O-Lantern spectacular is open every night 6pm to 10:30 now through October 31st. You MUST buy your time specific tickets online. Ticket times are 6pm, 7pm, 8pm, 9pm, and 10pm. You have an hour to arrive. I had a 7pm ticket so I had until 8pm to enter. Then you take your time to walk through the path Ticket prices are $18 Monday through Thursday and $21 for Friday, Satur

Perkins Cove

Image
Last week I took a day trip to the small fishing village of Perkins Cove located in Ogunquit, Maine. I can't wait to go back again. There is limited parking in Perkins cove, all lots were full when I got there at 10:45 am so I parked in a lot that was a half mile walk to the start of Marginal way. The parking lot cost $15. If you are lucky enough to get a spot in the closer lot, that one is $20 for the day. Marginal Way is a walking path along the ocean with gorgeous views. There are several benches throughout the entire path so you can take a rest or just sit and take in the views. I walked 1.5 miles to the lighthouse and then turned around and walked back. If you plan to go, you should know that there are quite a few hills to walk up and down along the path. This is a short video I took as I was resting on a bench. Unfortunately I was there at low tide so I have to go back when it is high tide. I am sure the views will be spectacular. After coming back from the walk I ate lunch
