Time to start planning

 I don't usually go anywhere for road trips in February because of the cold weather but now is a good time to start planning some trips. 

In March I plan to head to Mohegan sun for a day. Do a little gambling and shopping. I really enjoy the shops there, especially the Olde General Store.  The hardest part of the day will be deciding which restaurant to go to. Any suggestions?

I plan to go to Upstate NY in late April. Thinking of heading to Vernon downs for a Saturday/Sunday. Go to the race track Saturday evening then hit the casino for the live band after the races. I used to do this with my sister and just want to recreate the fun times we had when she was around. Sadly we lost her in June of 2024 at the young age of 53. I am planning this trip in April because I want to celebrate my sisters birthday.

Then once May hits, the weather will be warmer so I can head to the ocean. 

I will also need some trips to the cape to try out some restaurants in the Harwich Port area. My son is getting married in August and I need to find a location for the rehearsal dinner. I have to try the food before picking a location. If you are familiar with the restaurants on this part of the Cape, please let me know your choices.

I am happy that I am not planning to fly anywhere any time soon. These two plane crashes this week have me a little nervous. 

Hopefully I will be back soon to write about some new adventures.

Casino Fun

 I am not someone who goes to the casino all the time but I do enjoy a trip to one every now and then. Recently I went to visit Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY. It was my first time here and I would definitely take the 4 hour drive to visit again. The casino was extremely clean and bright. Lots of cute shops throughout the place. and so many restaurants to pick from. I went with my sister, who lives in NY, and we chose to eat at the casino buffet. Delicious!! The cost was $39.99 per person for a buffet with so many choices: taco bar, seafood, Chinese, BBQ, carving station, fried food, Italian and of course many delightful desserts.  I had prime rib from the carving station and it melted in my mouth, I had to go back for seconds on that. Portland Maine

 What a beautiful waterfront city to explore, especially if you like lighthouses and enjoy exploring old forts.  We took the almost 3 hour drive North on a Thursday. Traveled route 495 to 95 at 8am and there was light traffic. I always have to make a couple of stops so if you are like me, it will comfort you to know that there are some nice rest stops on route 95 in Maine. First is the visitor information center just over the Maine border. This place has rest rooms and plenty of tourist information along with a couple of helpful people working there. Next stop is in Kennebunk. This place has a variety of food options (Burger King, Popeyes, food mart, and coming soon is Dunkin Donuts) also some large rest rooms. Both places were nice and clean. The first light house we explored was Portland Head Light at Fort Williams. There is plenty of parking here but be aware the cost to park is $5 for two hours. Disney's Port Orleans - French Quarter Resort

  returned home yesterday after a 6 day trip to Disney World. While there, I stayed at the Port Orleans French Quarter Resort. I would not hesitate to stay there again. The regular price for a standard room is $304 per night. I took advantage of a promotion and only paid $255 per night. My room was in a perfect location. Only a few steps away from the river where you can take a boat ride over to Disney Springs and in the other direction I only had a few steps to Jackson Square. Jackson square is where the hotel lobby is, the quick service restaurant, the jazz night club, the resort store and multiple activities happen there.  If you want to pay a little more ($333) you can get a room with a river view.  This resort is the smallest of the Disney properties and that is one reason I liked it so much.
