Christmas at Walt Disney World

I never thought I could get into the Christmas spirit with daytime temperatures in the 80's, but it happened. I recently spent 6 days at Disney World in Florida and was impressed with all the Holiday cheer that was everywhere. My resort, the Coronado Springs resort, had Christmas trees and wreaths everywhere! Of course, being Disney, everything is done on a large scale. and Christmas music played 24 hours a day all over the resort.

If you are interested in a trip to Disney during the Christmas season which officially kicked off November 11th this year, I will share some prices with you.

5 nights at Coroando Springs with a 4 day park hopper pass came with a price tag of $2700. Then I purchased a ticket to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas party which was an additional $179. This party is at Magic Kingdom from 7pm to midnight. The party includes holiday shows on different stages in the park throughout the night, a Christmas parade that runs twice during the night and fireworks at 10pm. As you walk through the park you can enjoy complimentary holiday cookies as well as hot chocolate or apple cider.  I had the best time!

Another fun activity that is free is the Christmas tree stroll at Disney Springs. You a map and stickers. As you find the tree you place the sticker with the appropriate tree theme. Once you have correctly found all the trees you turn in the map to claim your Disney pin as a present. Disney Springs was beautifully decked out for the holiday.  Here are some pictures from Disney Springs

this waterfall was one of my favorites at Disney Springs

Another free activity at Disney is resort hopping. I enjoyed going to a few different resorts to see how they were decorated for the holiday. I highly recommend going to Wilderness lodge. I took a short boat ride from Magic Kingdom to get to Wilderness Lodge. You can also take a bus. The lobby is beautiful and a few characters come out to visit every couple of hours. When I was there I had my picture taken with Mickey, Donald and Pluto. Other characters that came out were Stitch, Baloo, and Rafiki. here are some pictures from Wilderness Lodge

This water feature in the lobby was surrounded by comfortable chairs so I just sat and enjoyed the view and the sound of running water.

While at the Lodge I had lunch at the restaurant "Whispering Canyon" food was delicious and the wait staff phenomenal. The waiters and waitresses were so entertaining it was like going to a show. The restaurant offers skillets which are all you can eat. The meat melted in my mouth. YUMMY! and the butter for my corn bread was the best.
I have nothing but positive feedback to give you about every place that I ate and here they are

First the sit down meals that you need to make a reservation for:

Liberty Tree Tavern in Magic Kingdom - the meal is all you can eat family style. First you get the tossed salad, then the main course which consists of turkey, pulled pork, pork roast, and pot roast with mashed potatoes, mac and cheese and grean beans. Then the delicious dessert of

Oooey Gooey Toffee Cake

Vanilla Toffee Cake, Chocolate Sauce, and Vanilla Ice Cream
The cost is $39 per person.

Rix Sports Bar and Grill in the Coronado Resort -  The good news for me when I ate here was that the bartender put one of the many televisions on the Celtics game. Plenty of appetizers and sandwiches to pick from on the menu, I had the California Chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries (so good) and cole slaw. Including my soda and tip, the entire bill was under $40

In my next post I will discuss the quick service restaurants.
