New Hampshire Scarecrows

My daughter and I took our annual trip to Chester, NH to find all the scarecrows around town. This is done as a fundraiser for the historical society of the town. People pay to get the head and wooden pole for the scarecrow and then they let their imagination take over. We managed to find about 150 and there were still plenty more but the day was getting late so we headed home. Our first stop of the day was at the gift shop called "Bittersweet Blessings" We always get our map of the scarecrow locations at this store and of course we always do some shopping. Every year we find something we like in this adorable store. and this is where we always find our first scarecrow.


Next we go across the street and park at the post office (which is closed when we go) then get out and walk around this 4 way intersection as there are several scarecrows in this area of the post office, library, country store and a couple of churches. These are a few of them 




After walking around taking pictures we got back into the car and headed off in search of more. There is one cul de sac road that does a great job every year. Almost all the houses have scarecrows and the neighborhood puts a great display in the circle at the end of the road. This is Lincoln Lane. If you go to Chester in October, be sure to take a ride on this road.




As I mentioned earlier in this post, you can find scarecrows all over town. If you were to find all of them i believe it would take a full day. One thing we noticed this year is that a lot of the same scarecrows are used year after year so I think I will make this trip every other year instead of annually. Here are a few more of the scarecrows I found.

 What a beautiful waterfront city to explore, especially if you like lighthouses and enjoy exploring old forts.  We took the almost 3 hour drive North on a Thursday. Traveled route 495 to 95 at 8am and there was light traffic. I always have to make a couple of stops so if you are like me, it will comfort you to know that there are some nice rest stops on route 95 in Maine. First is the visitor information center just over the Maine border. This place has rest rooms and plenty of tourist information along with a couple of helpful people working there. Next stop is in Kennebunk. This place has a variety of food options (Burger King, Popeyes, food mart, and coming soon is Dunkin Donuts) also some large rest rooms. Both places were nice and clean. The first light house we explored was Portland Head Light at Fort Williams. There is plenty of parking here but be aware the cost to park is $5 for two hours. A day in Plymouth, Ma

 The first weekend in November I made a trip to Plymouth. I really enjoyed myself walking around the waterfront. All the restaurants were open as well as the tourist souvenir shops. I was also pleased that the building with public restrooms was open as well and quite clean. This year I went looking for the painted scallop shells. Found some very nice ones. Two years ago the town had painted lobsters all about. Cabbyshack restaurant had both their lobster and scallop shell on display. I walked along the water finding many painted shells, saw lots of people touring the Mayflower and I took a peak at Plymouth Rock. Here are a few of the scallop shells I found by the water, This first weekend in November is when Plymouth North holds their annual craft fair so I went there and walked around. Casino Fun

 I am not someone who goes to the casino all the time but I do enjoy a trip to one every now and then. Recently I went to visit Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY. It was my first time here and I would definitely take the 4 hour drive to visit again. The casino was extremely clean and bright. Lots of cute shops throughout the place. and so many restaurants to pick from. I went with my sister, who lives in NY, and we chose to eat at the casino buffet. Delicious!! The cost was $39.99 per person for a buffet with so many choices: taco bar, seafood, Chinese, BBQ, carving station, fried food, Italian and of course many delightful desserts.  I had prime rib from the carving station and it melted in my mouth, I had to go back for seconds on that.
