A day in Chatham

I love taking day trips to cape cod. Usually I go to the cape cod canal and then spend time in South Yarmouth but on this day I tried a different town. I spent time exploring Chatham, Mass and I will definitely go back again. My day started with my usual stop at the canal for a bathroom break and a little walk along the water. Then I continued on my way over the Sagamore bridge. I made another stop at the route 6 visitors center in Barnstable and found my first sand castle of the year. I will be blogging in July about the sand castle trip I will take to South Yarmouth.

After leaving the visitors center I made my way to the Chatham fish pier. This is a definite stop for everyone. There were so many seals. but none in the water. They were all sun bathing.

I spent quite a bit of time here watching and listening to the seals. It is a nice place for tourists. There is a little park with a fish sculpture along with restrooms. (Very clean)

After leaving the fish pier I headed downtown. What a cute town to spend the day. There was plenty of free parking and restrooms. There was a variety of stores to both window shop and go inside. Along with all the little shops there were so many places to eat with both indoor and outdoor seating.

Candy stores have always been a favorite of mine. especially when they have fudge, and Chatham had a couple fo candy stores. There was also a theater that had a great mural on the wall as seen here.

When I left downtown I headed out on route 28 and just a couple miles down the road I found a Christmas shop. I LOVED walking through that store and couldn't help myself. I had to buy presents. I am sure I will be back to the Christmas Joy store in Chatham again before Christmas.

So if you are looking for a non-beach day down cape I recommend Chatham. There is also the Chatham lighthouse which I have seen before but did not get there today.
